The Day of the Dog and the Veteran Event Benefits Two Causes
The Day of the Dog and the Veteran is a charitable event with proceeds benefiting Mara Brandman Horse Arena and Wounded Warrior/Semper Fi Foundation, both 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations.
The event is being produced by volunteers dedicated to raise funds for the two causes. The Semper Fi Fund helps Wounded Warriors deal with civilian life and their disabilities. They teamed up with Tom Tackett of Tackett Service Dogs to put on a great show of what these Service Dogs can do, how they are trained, and how important this part of the dog world is to our society. They are also deeply committed to the prosperity and the longevity of the Mara Brandman Horse Arena.
In addition to all the things listed on the flyer, there will be live blue grass music, catering by Tulsa Rib Company, and the Fire Department will be there for photos for the kids. There truly will be something for everyone.
Attendees over 60 who need special attention can expect valet car parking, water and shaded seating.

Way Out Western Horse Show
Way Out Western Horse Shows put on the first of a 4 show season on March 16th at the Mara Brandman Arenas in Orange Park Acres. By all accounts it was a WOW success! With 31 different classes spread in seven divisions, there is something for everyone. In keeping with the AQHA rules there is a ranch pleasure class which has no apparel requirements. You can ride in off the community trails, into the Ranch Pleasure class and head off again towards home with minimal fuss. Ranch pleasure is a simple pattern with one or two obstacles to show the agility and team work of horse and rider. It is becoming a very popular class in the AQHA circuit because of its simplicity and the fun element. It is a whole lot of fun.
We want to take time to thank the trainers who came to participate with their students as well as the three Orange County trainers who are producing the WOW shows, Debbie McEwen of Peacock Hills, Leslie Thomson and Brianna Leahy of Serrano Creek Stables. Don Lehman was the trail course designer who constructed some very challenging courses for the riders. Alexa’s Catering was our food for the day. She has been serving the horse show crowd for more than 25 years and certainly knows what makes our tummies happy. Stephen Francis Photography was onsite to shoot pictures of all the riders and horses. Those shots are available for purchase. Finally, to all the volunteers who helped make this happen, thank you; and please come back to help at the June 15th show!
